IMA seeks to facilitate experiential and reflective learning for students, to help them consider and develop new perspectives about Islam as well as interact constructively with diverse Muslims.
The first half of the 2017 school year has been busy at IMA. We have had a total of 49 school visits, or 1941 students from 30 schools visiting IMA. Many students have commented on the transformative learning potential the museum holds in developing intercultural capabilities and facilitating thoughtful discussions in an inclusive environment.
Here is what some students had to say about their experience at IMA:
I was delighted to speak to a Muslim and ask questions about their faith. I feel like I am experiencing Islam in real life which is wonderful.
I was very inspired by the Islamic Museum of Australia. It opened me up to the Islamic culture and what the religion is like. I learnt a lot about history, beliefs and what it is like to be an everyday Islamic person.
IMA offers a variety of educational packages that are aligned with the Australian curriculum. Educational excursions include guided tours of our 5 museum galleries with an emphasis on intercultural experiences and personal stories. We also offer geometric, or mosaic art workshops as well as interactive games and quizzes that form part of your experience
