We're closed for the holidays and reopening on 6 Jan 2025
In November, the Education Team from the Islamic Museum of Australia embarked on an exciting trip to Perth, Western Australia, to deliver a series of interactive incursion workshops. With the task of coordinating with six schools, liaising with the right contacts, and ensuring everything was organised in time, it was a bit of a hectic build-up. But all the hard work paid off when the team brought history to life for students in a fun and engaging way.
The workshops focused on two fascinating topics: "Connected Histories” and “Medieval Europe and The Islamic Golden Age". Students dived into these themes through a mix of booklets, group discussions, and quizzes (with lollies as rewards!). The hands-on activities were a highlight; students created geometric art, made fun and colourful kaleidoscopes, and explored Australia’s Muslim history through the museum’s augmented reality program, Winds of Change. These activities helped students connect with the material in a way that felt exciting and accessible.
The trip was a massive success, with students and teachers alike praising the engaging nature of the workshops. The team’s hard work and enthusiasm ensured that the sessions ran smoothly and left a lasting impact on everyone involved. The positive feedback from Perth schools was so overwhelming that the museum is already planning its next trip in 2025, to a new state.
Thanks to this successful initiative, we are thrilled to continue offering these immersive educational experiences, helping students explore and learn in a fun and meaningful way!
Participants from our trip to Perth said the workshops were:
