Saturday 31st January 2026
Open Mon-Sat, 10am to 4pm. Closed Sunday and all public holidays.
As part of the Islamic Council of Victoria’s annual Victoria Mosque Open Day, the Islamic Museum of Australia warmly invites you to join us for a day of openness, connection, and shared learning.
Mosque Open Day is an opportunity to step inside, ask questions, and experience the mosque and museum as welcoming community spaces. Grounded in the values of neighbourliness, respect, and understanding, the day brings people together across cultures and beliefs through art, conversation, and creativity.
Throughout the day, visitors are invited to explore workshops, guided tours, exhibitions, and hands-on activities designed to encourage reflection and meaningful exchange. Whether you’re visiting for the first time or returning with curiosity, this is a chance to slow down, connect, and learn together in a spirit of openness.
We look forward to welcoming you.
Activities include:
Geometry Workshop, $25 per person
With Evla Han
Step into the quiet rhythm of Islamic geometric art, where mathematics, spirituality, and creativity unfold together. Guided by Evla Hann, whose practice in hendesi tezyinat grew from engagement with architectural form and pattern, this beginner-friendly workshop is an introduction to symmetry, proportion, and repetition. Participants will build a geometric design, and bring it to life through considered colour. The process invites focus, presence, and space for personal expression.

FREE - Bloom Bar
With Seher Istar
“Flowers do not bloom alone — they grow through care, patience, and shared space.”
Join us this Open Mosque Day for a gentle Bloom Bar experience that celebrates connection, community, and reflection. Hosted by Seher Istar, Founder & Director of Jamela Boutique and freelance photographer, this session coincides with her mini exhibition Salāh, a visual reflection on the mosque as a space of faith, strength, and peace.
FREE - Community Mosaic Art
With AFP
Take part in a collaborative art experience by contributing to a large mosaic plant pot. Visitors are invited to add a tile to this shared artwork, symbolising growth, unity, and community. As the day unfolds, the mosaic will gradually come to life through the many hands that shape it.
Mini Exhibition - Reflections in Prayer
“Reflections in Prayer” is a gentle yet powerful exhibition by Seher Istar, using photography to communicate Islam’s emphasis on character, accountability, and spiritual beauty. By focusing on Salah as a practice of reflection and moral refinement, the exhibition offers an alternative narrative — one that invites understanding, counters fear, and builds bridges through shared human values.
FREE - Guided Museum Tour
Join us for a guided tour of the Islamic Museum of Australia at 11am on VMOD and gain insight into Islamic history, culture, and lived experiences in Australia. This tour is ideal for first-time visitors and anyone wanting a deeper understanding of the museum’s exhibitions and stories.
FREE - Open Craft Room
Our Open Craft Room is a relaxed, drop-in creative space open throughout the day. Visitors of all ages are invited to explore a range of hands-on craft activities inspired by creativity and making. No bookings or experience required — simply drop in, take a seat, and enjoy creating at your own pace.
