Join the Islamic Museum of Australia on a journey of discovery.
Discover Australia's rich Muslim history on a journey from Adelaide to Port Augusta, South Australia, guided by a local historian specialising in cameleer history.
We invite artists, content creators, musicians, fashion designers, and writers from across Australia to participate in this educational and creative journey.
Throughout the trip, you’ll be inspired to reflect on your experiences by creating a piece of work, which can range from paintings, poetry, and short stories, to vlogs, documentaries, garments, textiles, and original music.
Reflection pieces are a mandatory part of participation, allowing you to express your personal insights from the trip in any medium.
Day 1
Fly into Adelaide city to meet and greet with fellow participants.
Day 2
Tour Adeliade city on Afghan Cameleers History, including Mahomet Allum residence with Pamela, an Afghan Cameleer historian and expert and meet with Imam Sheik Helmi Bakhour who will also highlight the importance of Islamic History with Australia.
Day 3
Road trip to Port Augusta for a one-night stay, visit memorials and meet with descendants of Afghan cameleers.
Day 4
Visit the ‘Ghan’ railway siding, then head back to Adelaide city.
Day 5
Final reflections with Mehemet Aslan from Pinnacle college then head back to home city.

With limited spots available, participants will be selected through an interview process. A refundable $300 deposit is required, returned upon completion of your project.
This project is funded by the Australian Government’s Social Cohesion Measures Grant to support the Australian Palestinian, Muslim and other communities affected by the Hamas - Israel conflict. The grant supports an integrated and cohesive multicultural Australia.
