Youth Leaders Program

The Islamic Museum of Australia's Youth Leaders Program invites young Muslims in Years 10-12 to participate in a 10-week term of the Future Leaders program, starting on 11 October 2024. This program aims to empower youth through skill development, recreational activities, and community building.

Program Highlights:
  • Facilitator: Salim Mohamed, a Youth Empowerment Specialist with a diverse background in youth work and community engagement.
  • Leadership Skills: Participants will develop leadership skills that will benefit them for life.
  • Activities and Networking: Weekly recreational activities and opportunities to connect with like-minded Muslims.
  • Meals: Dinner provided weekly.
  • Duration: The program begins on 11 October 2024.
Weekly Topics:
  1. Introduction: Get to know each other.
  2. Team Player: Demonstrate teamwork to achieve success.
  3. Respect: Engage respectfully to build connections.
  4. Communication: Communicate effectively to build connections.
  5. Goal Oriented: Develop goals and strategies to support success.
  6. Problem Solver: Develop strategies to solve community problems.
  7. Problem Solver: Continue developing problem-solving strategies.
  8. Identity and Confidence: Reflect on personal identity and build self-confidence.
  9. Identity and Confidence: Enhance self-confidence and embrace identity through discussions.
  10. All Skills: Collaborate to achieve success.

About Salim Mohamed

Salim Mohamed, born in Mogadishu, Somalia, and migrated to Australia from Ethiopia in 1998, is a dedicated Youth Empowerment Specialist. He has a rich educational background, including a Certificate IV and Diploma in Youth Work, a Graduate Certificate in Education Studies, and is currently pursuing a Master’s in Educational Leadership.

Salim's professional journey includes impactful roles at various organisations such as Melbourne Victory Football Club, Islamic Council of Victoria, and Parkville College. He is passionate about nurturing the potential of young individuals and giving back to his community.

$100 deposit required, 50% returned upon 80 per cent completion of the program. This project is funded by the Australian Government’s Social Cohesion Measures Grant to support the Australian Palestinian, Muslim and other communities affected by the Hamas - Israel conflict. The grant supports an integrated and cohesive multicultural Australia.
