About this event

Join us for a fun and creative storytelling workshop celebrating children’s imagination, culture and the power of their own stories. Enjoy a reading by local children’s author Amal Abou-Eid, followed by guided creative writing activities where children can explore their ideas, share their experiences and create stories of their own. Aligned with the Children’s Week 2026 theme, “Children have the right to use their own language, celebrate their culture and practise their religion,” this workshop encourages children to express themselves, celebrate their cultural identity and discover the joy of storytelling.

About Amal

Amal Abou-Eid is a passionate educator and very busy mother to 4 young boys. Living in Melbourne, Australia, Amal is surrounded by people of various faiths and cultures.

The daughter of Lebanese migrants, Amal identifies as a Muslim Lebanese Australian and credits the splendours of multiculturalism as her inspiration for writing.

Hoping to educate readers about her faith and her cultural heritage, Amal writes books which explain aspects of Islam and Lebanese culture that are often misunderstood and misrepresented.

She hopes her books will give all children stories they can relate to and stories they can identify with. She hopes her stories will educate readers and inspire others to share their own stories, too.

This Children’s Week event is presented by Islamic Museum of Australia in partnership with the Victorian Government
