Explore texture, pattern, and colour in this hands-on workshop led by Lobna Hassan, a talented artist shortlisted in the Australian Muslim Artist Competition. Drawing inspiration from the intricate beauty of Islamic geometric art, you’ll use modelling paste and templates to create raised, tactile designs that celebrate symmetry, rhythm, and detail. Once your designs are complete, you’ll bring them to life with paint, transforming simple shapes into striking, three-dimensional pieces.
This workshop is more than just an art session, it’s an opportunity to slow down, focus, and connect with your creativity in a mindful and expressive way. You’ll engage with centuries-old traditions of Islamic pattern-making, interpreting them in a contemporary, hands-on format. Whether you’re seeking to experiment with texture, explore geometric design, or simply enjoy a relaxing and inspiring creative experience, you’ll leave with a piece that is uniquely yours and a deeper appreciation for the beauty and precision of Islamic art.
In its ongoing commitment to combatting Islamophobia, the Islamic Museum of Australia champions an understanding and appreciation for Islamic art and culture. The Elevated Patterns workshop is supported by the Victorian Government.
