More about Imam Al-Shafi'i

Imam Al-Shafi'i is the founder of one of four schools of jurisprudence which constitute Islamic legal theory. His place of nativity is in dispute but it is believed Gaza, Palestine is his most likely place of birth.

His paternal genealogy suggests he is related to the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). It is also believed his mother is a descendant of one of the Prophet's cousins. As such, this hallowed lineage may contribute to the popularity the Shafi'i school of jurisprudence continues to enjoy among diverse Muslim communities.
