Jaren | جڑیں | Roots | جذور is an exhibition that brings together works held in the collections of the Islamic Museum of Australia, Bundoora Homestead (City of Darebin) and La Trobe University.

Drawing on our shared context as neighbours, the selected artworks reflect on the diverse communities of artists that call or have called Australia home.
The exhibition specifically focuses on artists who express cultural heritage and practices from Central Asia, South Asia, West Asia, North Africa and Eastern Europe.

The artists celebrate and challenge the cultural contexts that shape their lived experiences. Through their work, they reflect on personal encounters and cultural histories, exploring how these have informed their beliefs.

Many artists in Jaren | جڑیں | Roots | جذور consider their role within the settler colony, while others examine their migration stories. They blend humour and traditional techniques with contemporary formalism and subject matter, offering a unique perspective on identity and culture.

7 Feb to 12 Jul 2025 - La Trobe University Borchardt Library
8 Apr to 12 Jul 2025 - Islamic Museum of Australia, Thornbury
26 Feb to 24 May 2025 - Bundoora Homestead Art Centre
