Celebrate Children’s Book Week: Bookbinding Workshop
Discover the timeless art of bookmaking this Children’s Book Week! Designed specifically for youth aged 9 to 15, this hands-on public program invites participants to step into the world of traditional craftsmanship.
Guided by Mouhamed from the renowned Risala Bookstore, your child will learn the fundamental techniques of hand bookbinding. Throughout this interactive session, participants will craft two unique, pocket-sized notebooks—each using a distinct stitching technique. They will also design and create a handmade greeting card, with plenty of opportunities to personalise their creations with custom cover designs.
This workshop is a wonderful way to foster imagination, refine fine motor skills, and develop a lasting appreciation for the beauty of physical books. Every participant will walk away with beautiful handmade keepsakes and the confidence to continue bookmaking at home.
Why Join This Workshop?
  • Learn Traditional Craft: Connect with an ancient tradition through practical, hands-on skills.
  • Take Home Keepsakes: Craft two personalised pocket notebooks and a custom greeting card.
  • Expert Guidance: Learn directly from an experienced bookbinder passionate about book restoration.
About the Facilitator
Mouhamed (Risala Bookstore)
Risala Bookstore was founded to encourage a love for book ownership, viewing books as physical capsules of stories and history. Mouhamed discovered a passion for bookbinding during the early years of Covid, drawn to the magic of collating materials into lasting vessels for human thought. Dedicated to the preservation and repair of texts, Mouhamed brings a deep love for the art of restoration and craft to this workshop, inspiring the next generation of makers.
