Discover the beauty of traditional Islamic illumination through the delicate and intricate art of Tezhip. In this hands-on, beginner-friendly workshop, participants will design and create a personalised bookmark featuring the first letter of their name in Arabic, placed within a carefully composed decorative design.

Guided by facilitator Mereym Aker, you will explore how Islamic artists have historically used balance, colour, and fine detail to enhance manuscripts and artworks. Using fine brushes, vibrant pigments, and shimmering accents, you’ll learn foundational Tezhip techniques while engaging with a meditative and creative process.

This session is designed to be accessible to beginners and offers a calm, focused environment to slow down and create something meaningful. By the end of the workshop, you will take home a finished illuminated bookmark, both a personal keepsake and a reflection of a centuries-old artistic tradition.

Suitable for ages 16+, this program also provides an opportunity to connect with community and engage with Islamic artistic heritage in a contemporary setting.
