Rhythmic Journeys: Middle Eastern Percussion

Event Status : Open

Discover the vibrant percussion traditions of the Islamic world in this beginner-friendly workshop!

Suitable for ages : 6+

Discover the vibrant percussion traditions of the Islamic world in this beginner-friendly workshop! Learn the fundamentals of Darbuka, Riq, and frame drums, instruments that have played a vital role in the cultural and musical heritage of Islamic societies across the Middle East, North Africa, and beyond.

Through hands-on practice, you'll explore the rhythms found in classical, folk, and ceremonial music, gaining an understanding of how Islamic cultures have used percussion in storytelling, celebrations, and communal gatherings. No prior experience is needed—just bring your enthusiasm and get ready to immerse yourself in the beats that have connected people for centuries!

In its ongoing commitment to combatting Islamophobia, the Islamic Museum of Australia champions an understanding and appreciation for Islamic art and culture. The Autumn School Holiday program is supported by the Victorian Government.
