It is during these times that it becomes crucial how important the role of the parent becomes. Are you frustrated? Do you feel like you're screaming too much? Arguing with your children? Do you feel that by the end of the day, your toddler has worn you out completely? There are ways to stop feeling like this, and I hope the following tips help.
  1. Don't consider this time to be the same as "homeschooling". You are not your child's teacher - teachers go to university for years to learn the craft! That's like me watching one science video on youtube and suddenly declaring I'm a scientist.
  2. Do take this opportunity to listen to your child's learning needs. Does your daughter/son enjoy reading/writing/drawing/playing music? Choose something, and find a fun activity for it. For my older kids, we watch "Crash Course in History" on youtube and then discuss the 11 minute video. They're interested, I feel good because they're learning so it's a win-win.
  3. Don't get caught up with a routine or what your friends and family are doing. Comparison is the thief of joy! Do what's in the best interest of your family. The kids will feel the tension if you stress out about routine, and let's be honest - things are already weird, so what's a later bedtime going to matter? Or sandwiches for dinner?
  4. Do come up with imaginative games. We live in an era that's awesome - the Internet is incredible! Jump online, find resources, read about fun things you can do. With my 2 year old, I go back to basics - hide & seek, follow the leader and even good old drawing. Anything goes - little toddlers only want to be with YOU.
I hope this helps. And I trust we will all get through this time together inshaAllah. - You can follow Maysaa on Facebook and Instagram @coachmayseq [/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][/et_pb_section]
