The Australian Muslim Artists publication is the first book of its kind in Australia. The AMA is not merely a publication about Australian Muslim contemporary artists and their creative pursuits, it inadvertently offers a type of visual meandering through which the evolution of the contemporary culture of Australian Muslim life can be viewed. The artistic direction of the Islamic Museum of Australia moves beyond the obvious documentation or representation of culture through the constraints of the historical lens; the IMA endeavours to explore, research and elevate the creative expression of Australian Muslims in the context of the contemporary culture and its development as well as supporting the individual pursuits of creativity. Through this publication the IMA is sharing in a sincere, albeit reduced manner, a vast array of local talent; placing side by side the consummate professional along with the traditional artist and passionate amateur; with each artist delivering something unique and inherently essential to our identities as Australian Muslims.
The AMA publication features a selection artists profiles alongside beautiful full colour images of the artwork. Along with the generous contributions by academic and Fine Art education specialist Dr. Leslie Morgan, this book will be enjoyed by a wide range of audiences and art lovers alike.
